My New Home

I am living in the center of Dublin, just north of Trinity College. My apartment has GORGEOUS views of Trinity College, the “posh” part of town, and the River Liffey. I am blessed with beautiful sunsets as my floor to ceiling windows face west. I ALSO happen to be living in the residential tower above the project site, so I have no excuse that the commute was terrible or the weather delayed me…… a fact that my contractor partners joke about constantly.

I have a one bedroom, “furnished” apartment which includes a bed, two nightstands, a sofa, coffee table, a dining table with 4 chairs and a washer dryer. Upon arrival, I visited the Dublin IKEA store for dishes, silverware, towels, bed linens and a coat rack (my most valued piece of furniture to date).

Luckily, I have experienced the various Dublin climates in my past trips, so, before my trip, I had purchased a new pair of waterproof rain boots and a waterproof coat with a hood. I have lost too many umbrellas to the Dublin gale force winds, including my Workday umbrella which lasted exactly 51 minutes! I have yet to wear any other footwear except the rainboots.

Originally, I had packed 4 large suitcases to bring with me. As I had moved out of my apartment 5 days before I actually flew, I did a trial run with 4 large suitcases, my backpack with two computers and an overnight bag, and decided I could not realistically navigate with that much luggage, so I streamlined down to 2 large suitcases, the backpack, and a overnight bag. The result was that some of what I thought I had carefully packed, did not come with me. A great example is my electric toothbrush – I have the charger but not the actual toothbrush! Oh well!

For those of you super curious, the rest of my life long belongings are stored in a public storage unit in Burlingame, CA. There is something somewhat liberating about moving without the weight of everything, but I do find I miss my “chotchkies” – I have so many little reminders of my extensive travels. I think this is why I love travel sooo much. We really don’t need the extra things to enjoy our daily existence, but those cherished items are difficult to discard. Ultimately, I love the freedom of being in a new place. I know someday I will need to settle…but not yet!
